Common Instinct

It is a series of illustrations exploring societal issues through the behavior of animals. This work uses metaphor to address topics such as group behavior, Consumerism, and social apathy. By juxtaposing animal instincts with human societal structures, I create a visual commentary on the nature of civilization and the often-blurry line between the “civilized” and the “wild.”

Social Apathy

Wildebeests often abandon their injured companions in times of danger to ensure their own safety. This serves as a metaphor for the indifference people display in subway environments when emergencies occur—choosing self-preservation over helping others.

Mimicry and Misinformation

Hoverflies mimic the appearance of bees, often making it difficult for people to distinguish between them. This parallels how misinformation spreads on social media, influencing news and media while obscuring the truth.

Resource monopoly and hoarding

Squirrels are known for their habit of hoarding food, resembling how people fiercely compete to monopolize resources. The shattered squirrel-shaped piggy bank symbolizes the fragility of financial bubbles.

Herd Mentality

The octopus mimics the patterns of sardines and blends into a crowded school, exemplifying the herd mentality of the social media era. The vortex formed at the center of the school resembles an endless traffic black hole, devouring unsuspecting individuals.

Consumerism and Capitalism

The cuckoo chick symbolizes a greedy capitalist, exploiting the maternal instincts of other birds to feed its insatiable hunger. This mirrors how capitalism creates false demands, compelling consumers to pay for unnecessary products.

Classism

The class structure in human society mirrors the food pyramid found in the ocean, where, driven by primitive instincts, consumption occurs in layers, devouring everything in its path. All of this unfolds beside the wreck of the Titanic on the seabed, with the exposed layers of its deck telling the brutal story of classism.

Group Bullying

Society’s prejudice and injustice toward the LGBTQ+ community are like a flock of crows ostracizing other bird species. However, when minority groups come together in solidarity, those malicious attacks and stares lose their power. With pride, no fear!

Privacy

In the information age, omnipresent cameras and data collected from people's phones create personalized big data, resembling a dangerous owl constantly monitoring every move nearby. Due to data exposure, even in enclosed spaces, it feels as if one is on display under an X-ray, with no place to hide.
